Early construction.

Photos showing some detail of initial construction of modified 9.0 metre powercat.

 Inverted cockpit, cabin pod.

Jig to help rotate pod.  One man (and forklift)  job.

Pod upright. Cabin bulkheads inclined to make better backrests, trading off a bit of interior space.

Anchor locker, fore deck module added and fwd cabin panels.

Looking aft, cockpit lockers and cabin.  Lockers carry the length of cockpit for increased rigidity to cockpit sole because of increased span fore and aft.

Forward cabin showing framing for seats. Note reinforcing on fwd bulkhead to carry pivot & locking pins for beams. Offset framing on floor is to allow for a seat / bunk to stbd & small galley to port.
Small cutouts on fwd bulkhead form a box beam with the deck to add more rigidity to the bulkhead.

Aft cabin showing reinforcement for outboard pod. Storage locker disguises duct work to carry outboard controls and cables to transom.

Fwd cabin showing under seat lockers.

Laminated beams, curved to help gain a little more wave clearance under the pod.

Jig / press to help laminate beams.

First hull sheeting. The cutout in bulkhead 3 is to allow for stowage of long items, boat hooks, wet gear, illegal immigrants, etc. This will later have a deck fitted which will be above LWL, self draining and water tight maintaining plenty of compartments for damage control.

That was easy the bit, now to get inside for all the fiddly places. The hulls are now almost 1200mm deep to help with under pod clearance. The down side of some of the modifications from original drawings is that the step from the cockpit to the hulls deck has increased. Another trade off.
This new hull arrangement will allow for the head to be in a hull between bulkheads 4 & 5. It will be deep enough for you sit with privacy and wave to the world as you go by. Hatch cover hinged toward others on-board.

Rough up of console. I'm trying a tilt up wheel and a feet under dash arrangement to help with seating and comfort. Seat eventually sliding & spigot mounted.

                              Late night snack.

Sea trials....... No more grog for that bloke.
